The Federal Government provides oversight for Nursing Homes in the United States. Part of this is because federal programs like Medicare and Medicaid provide funding for nursing facilities. In their role overseeing complaints about persistent care problems, the Government compiles statistics and investigates facilities.
This had previously led to the development of the “Special Focus Facility” program, where facilities received extra scrutiny based upon persistent problems with resident care. The decision to put a loved one in a residential care facility or a skilled nursing facility is a difficult one. There are often many serious family and financial pressures facing the resident, children, grandchildren and other loving family members. These are often challenging times and options for which facility to chose may be limited by a number of factors.
However, you and your loved one have rights. You have rights to know about care at the facility. You also have a right to know about complaints or problems with the facility. That is why the Government publishes this information.
At Coogan Gallagher, we focus on cases involving the exploitation, neglect, or poor treatment of nursing residents because people deserve to live with dignity and as much liberty and freedom as they can manage. This requires good, thoughtful care to keep nursing residents healthy and even improve their condition to allow them to care for themselves to the maximum extent possible.
Thus, that is why we are here to answer questions that you may have about poor care or problems that may be occurring for a loved one. This may include malnutrition, bruising, falls, pressure injuries (sometimes referred to as ‘bed sores’ or ‘pressure sores’). We are here to talk about any and all of these problems and to discuss whether legal rights may be involved.
