Civics…on its face, it does not inspire that much excitement, right? But stop and think: what things matter to your day-to-day life?
The security of your housing? The quality of the schools your children attend? What about your daily commute–the length, options, safety conditions, whether the roads get plowed & salted? How about the consistency of your garbage pickup? Your water bill? Um…did anyone say taxes?
However, consider that of these issues are impacted by how your local government is run (and your state, and your Nation). Civics is merely a term describing how those systems work and how YOU can get involved. Here’s an open letter from the ACLU imploring MORE civic engagement. And it starts with education. How can we have good, quality lives if we are not engaged in our communities? Social media does not substitute for actual, human engagement in governments and civic and charitable organizations in our communities.

Think about this. Pass on the message. Get involved. Safe, prosperous communities start with citizens devoted to making life good for their families and their neighbors’ families.
It’s a core American value.
