  • Construction Site Fall–Two Knee Surgeries

The Incident

A single 38-year-old Electrician, no dependents, was working as part of a construction project for a new Chicago Police Department station on the near South Side of Chicago.  The building was still only roughly-finished and had a tarp covering the doorway to keep heat in the work area.  When the Plaintiff was exiting the building one day at work, he tripped over construction debris that was strewn about the exit-way.  The general contractor, FHP Tectonics, Inc. was responsible for removing such debris with the laborers they supplied to the work site.

The Result

This case was tried before a Cook County jury who awarded the plaintiff over $250,000.00.  However, because the jury decided the Plaintiff was partially to blame for his fall & injuries, the Verdict was reduced by law.
